NMDHR Engages Schools and Higher Learning Institutions in Kambia District Ahead of HPV-MAC Campaign

Kambia District, Sierra Leone – In preparation for the upcoming HPV-MAC Campaign scheduled for this November, the Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) has embarked on an extensive poster-pasting exercise across schools and communities in Kambia District.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and the importance of the HPV vaccination in protecting young girls from cervical cancer. The posters carry clear messages encouraging parents, teachers, and community leaders to support the vaccination drive targeting girls aged 11-18 years.

According to NMDHR, the poster activity is part of a broader sensitization effort which started months ago to ensure that every parent and guardian understands the significance of the vaccine before the campaign officially begins. The exercise also complements NMDHR’s ongoing community engagements and school outreach sessions across other districts.

Speaking during the activity, NMDHR’s Programs Director, Nabieu Kamara emphasized that the HPV vaccine is safe, free, and effective, urging all eligible girls to take advantage of the opportunity during the vaccination week. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Ministry of Health, the District Health Medical Team through the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) with support from GAVI in promoting public health and protecting the rights of women and girls.

Community members and school authorities in Kambia have commended NMDHR for its proactive approach and continuous efforts to ensure that accurate information reaches the grassroots.

The HPV-MAC Campaign will officially roll out nationwide from 17th to 23rd November 2025, aiming to safeguard the next generation of Sierra Leonean girls from cervical cancer.
