Process and structure is underrated, talent overrated. To test this theory, I always do challenges to see how my paintings improve, when I push a little and get strategic - consistency can do so much, it always shocks me.

And so I created a 5 WEEK PORTRAIT CHALLENGE - painting 5 faces in 5 weeks, following and explaining in detail every step of the process. Not a recipe for how to approach every painting, but a logical framework for how to explore, plan, draw and apply watercolor in a way that allows to work with the medium, not against it.

5 very different faces, different skin types, different composition and color challenges. After going through this challenge, you will know what to do with a reference photo - how to analyze it, sketch and plan, how to explore and find suitable color combinations and how to execute simple watercolor techniques. Troubleshooting common mistakes, drawing tips and plenty of encouragement is a must, too 🫶🏻

We start on week 1 with a 4 color palette 🟠🔴🔵⚫️ and built up the palette, week by week - every week, we add 1 new color, do a mixing exercise, explore new combinations. When you are done with the challenge in 5 weeks, you end up with a reliable, universal and easy to use 8 color palette that you actually understand and know how to use 💪🏻🦋
