Osteoporosis - what’s behind it? Analysis by KÖRPERWELTEN
“Did you know that osteoporosis mainly affects the fine bone marrow (trabekel) inside the bone?
The spongiosa is the sponge-like system built in the interior of the bone, which consists of the fine bone beams (trabkeln).
In osteoporosis, bone degradation is accelerated: the bone marbles become thinner, more porous and less numerous. This causes the skeleton to lose its stability - similar to a house where the bearing beams are removed.
What does that mean to the bone?
--> More fractures: the bones become more unstable and break easier.
--> Altered structure: the cavities in the bone become larger, the elasticity decreases.
--> Pain & movement limitations: especially the vertebrae, hips and forearms are at risk.
What can you do about it?
--> Get moving!
When you move, the bone cells are stimulated to form new bone substance.
--> Take enough calcium and vitamin D (with K2)!
Calcium is stored in the bones. When you take too low calcium, calcium is released from the bones to keep blood levels stable and bones become more fragile.
Vitamin D ensures that calcium is absorbed from the intestine and can be incorporated into the bones. Without enough vitamin D, the body cannot use calcium effectively, even if enough is taken in.”
