⚙️ How do you restore a moving work of art?

Outside Moderna Museet on Skeppsholmen stands ”The Paradise” (Le Paradis fantastique) by Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle, one of the museum’s most beloved artworks.

Behind the scenes, our Sculpture Conservation team is carrying out one of the most extensive conservation projects in the work’s history. The seven moving machines created by Jean Tinguely are being carefully restored to preserve both their mechanics and the artists’ original vision.

In this video, our curators My Bundgaard and Marie Grima take you inside the conservation process and explain what is happening, and why it matters.

”The Paradise” will reopen in spring 2027.

From rooftop to street level in 39 metres.

”Stockholm Slides” is Carsten Höller’s large-scale artwork on the façade of Moderna Museet. Two mirrored slides spiral down from the roof, turning the museum visit into something you experience with your whole body.

⏳ Almost ready.

This Saturday, a new collection exhibition opens at Moderna Museet.

“Will You Be Profitable, My Friend?” brings together Swedish art from 1945–1979. A period of bold experimentation, social transformation and political debate, seen through around 90 works from the Moderna Museet Collection.

Some questions belong to history. Others never stop feeling relevant.

Opening 13 June.

🧵✨ Two days to go.

Soon, Anna Casparsson’s embroidered worlds open at Moderna Museet.

With silk, velvet, pearls, sequins, shells and gold thread, she created magnificent and wilful works inspired by fairy tales, biblical stories and classical music. Textiles that move freely between art and craft, intimacy and imagination.

“The Isle of Bliss” presents twenty-nine works at Moderna Museet for the first time since 1960.

The exhibition opens this Saturday, but you’re welcome already tomorrow at 18.00 for the opening night.
