Together with the fantastic staff at Tensta Vårdcentral and Souzan Youssouf from Usify we are exploring how design methods can be used to better understand patients’ perspective and needs.

During the fall Ocean has been part of Närmare! A project aiming to strengthen, challenge and explore new grounds for service design within healthcare. Six different pilots are running in parallell, each exploring a different challenge through design. In one of the pilots we are working with the staff at Tensta Vårdcentral to create new ways of understanding the patient perspective focusing on self care and lifestyle changes.

Hepatitis C is a severe infectious disease that mainly affects the liver. If left untreated, it can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. These days there are effective treatments and new drugs on the market are easier to take, have fewer side-effects and cures more than 95% of the treated patients.

But there’s a problem; since the virus is blood-borne, the disease is often stigmatized because it is associated with injection drug use. There are numerous other ways of contracting the disease, but the stigmatization raises the threshold for people to seek care.
