Name: Anna Westermark

Graduation year: 2013

Current title: Right now I’m on maternity leave but before I paused work my title was Head of Clio Lab at Clio (a Bonnier group company within Edtech)

Programme concentration: Mechanical Engineering

Master programme: Management and Economics of Innovation

Which was your first job after graduating? Strategy consultant at Accenture which was an intense and fun crash course to start off my career

Which is your best life hack for students? Join student associations since it makes everything more fun (most of my now closest friends came from the different associations I was a part of) and study abroad and/or really get to know some exchange students to get a broader perspective than solely the one from the Chalmers environment

Which course did you enjoy the most? Technological change and industrial transformation was really good. I also studied one semester in Madrid where I took a course in Creativity which was an interesting study of creative processes where we had lectures from everything from engineers to jazz musicians and movie screen writers

Which course have you most benefited from since you started working? It definitely is the combo of multiple engineering and economics/management courses that has trained me in broader problem solving skills and getting the confidence of working with a lot of unknowns but still feeling confident that you can find solutions. To mention a few more specific courses the Economical Analysis courses were good to build a basic understanding of financial KPIs that have been useful. Also, a majority of the courses I took during my Master were very relevant since I am now working with innovation and product development.

Which is the best memory from your time at Chalmers? There are so many great memories and most of them are connected to the student associations I was a part of. INollK and what then was called USAK. I will never forget when we after a lot of late nights working managed to find the last missing internship in the US for one of our members. That was pure relief, happiness and a great celebration afterwards.

What are you most proud of doing since you graduated? I was recently asked to be an advisor to an American Edtech start-up and it made me happy to get the opportunity to reflect on what I have learnt and whom I have gotten to know in my career so far and thus what I can pass along to support them

Do you have any favourite spot in Gothenburg and then, which one? Ängårdsberget is great for walks/running

What is your best tip for current students? Relax, don’t focus too much on the specific grades but instead try to figure out what areas really interest you. When everyone has worked a couple of years (at least that was the case for me and my Chalmers friends) we realized there is more to life than grades and working long hours. There are so many arenas in life where you will learn a lot of exciting and useful things

Name: Jonas Corné

Master programme: M.Sc. Industrial Engineering and Management

Which was your first job after graduating?
I started a company with a few friends while in school and that turned into my first and only job since graduating.

Which is your best life hack for students?
If you wish to start a business it will be a risky endeavor and I think it is best to take risk early in one's career when you don't have a lot of obligations and haven't gotten used to a big fat salary. And also, don't be too concerned with the idea, almost all of the success will be based on ex*****on.

Which course did you enjoy the most?
I most enjoyed Multivariate Calculus and Innovation Economics.

Which course have you most benefited from since you started working?
Especially in the early days of starting a business I had direct use of the learnings in Managerial Economics and Financial Analysis. Later in my career, I find that the engineering mindset obtained through the more Engineering heavy courses is what I use daily in solving problems. In running a business there are many problems. So many problems. If there is one course I wish I would have understood better it is Statistics.

Which is the best memory from your time at Chalmers?
My memory really sucks but my best memories from Chalmers are from the early days in the nollning where I met friends that I am still friends with today. It was so intense to do all the introductory math and getting to know new people while feeling both freedom and responsibility.

What are you most proud of doing since you graduated?
I am most proud of having started Greenbyte with friends from childhood and having managed to remain friends with them despite all of the ups and downs that running a business entails.

Do you have any favourite spot in Gothenburg and then, which one?
My favourite spot in Gothenburg is the archipelago. For new comers to Gothenburg I really recommend renting a small motor boat to go explore the southern islands on a sunny summer day.

What is your best tip for current students?
Take risks.

The alumni of the month is Philip Wramsby!

Name: Philip Wramsby

Graduation year: 2007

Current title:
Partner and responsible for recruitment at Montell & Partners (management consulting)

Programme concentration: Mechanical Engineering (Teknisk bas: Maskin)

Master programme:
Supply Chain Design Management (Jenny Fredriksson and I were the first ones ever to present a master’s thesis within the SCM master’s programme at Chalmers in November 2005!)

Which was your first job after graduating?
Business Analyst at Montell & Partners (management consulting). The job was so fun and developing so I have now been working in the same company for 14 years!

Which is your best life hack for students?
Study together in groups with other students where you complement each other. Be structured with respect to when and how you study and allow yourself to set off time to enjoy life and engage in the societies and committees that are available on campus!

Which course did you enjoy the most?
I think it was a course in Data analysis and statistics. It was a very tough course to study and students as well as teachers worked very hard but to see all of us students from Industrial Engineering find out how you can use data and what statistics really is was great. Now in times of huge amounts of data and lots of fake news, it also turned out to be of good use!
Most of the time I have also enjoyed the time spent at the Chalmers golf course – can be recommended to all students!

Which course have you most benefited from since you started working?
It is a combination of the supply chain design & management courses that were part of the master’s and a course in statistic modelling. By combining the knowledge in these courses, I have been able to work with large global footprint projects where scenario analysis and risk assessment is key for a successful decision and implementation.

Which is the best memory from your time at Chalmers?
Being able to take part in the many societies and committees and Chalmers has enabled me to have great memories from all my years at Chalmers. Starting with Inollk followed by four years of different roles in Chalmersspexet, both on stage and in administrative roles. I still enjoy spending time at Chalmers from time to time and I am proud to have been aa moderator for graduation ceremonies during the last eight years. I hope to see many I-students in coming ceremonies since it is a great way to celebrate your achievements at Chalmers and have time for a last evening with friends and family!

What are you most proud of doing since you graduated?
Managing to continue to develop my skills and be part of building a company that has grown from 5 to 25 people at the same time as enjoying life with my wife (also an alumni at Chalmers) and two daughters.

Do you have any favourite spot in Gothenburg and then, which one?
Hovåsbadet is a child-friendly and sheltered sand beach with both rocks and ladders. It is not too crowded during summer and if you want to catch small crabs, I think there is no better place!

What is your best tip for current students?
Mix structured studies with student activities where you will find friends for life at the same time as having fun and learn how to work in projects!
