HM 12 “The Guardian”

Some watches keep track of time. This one keeps watch.

With HM12 The Guardian, MB&F returns to one of the ideas that shaped the brand from the beginning — creating mechanical objects with personality, presence, and a little bit of childhood imagination left untouched.

The watch itself becomes the robot’s head. Two displays form its eyes through jumping hours and trailing minutes, while a flying tourbillon sits exposed above like its mechanical mind. Then come the face shields — a fully mechanical system that opens and closes across the front, changing the entire expression of the watch and deciding how much of the face remains visible.

But the story doesn’t end on the wrist. Remove HM12 and it clips directly onto The Guardian — a 38cm mechanical companion complete with a mechanical thermometer, integrated loupe, and UV torch. Together, they form nearly 1,500 components working as a single object.

Some watches disappear into a collection.

This one stands guard over it.

الساعة نفسها تتحول إلى رأس الحارس. تعرض الوقت عبر عينين ميكانيكيتين؛ الساعات تقفز على جهة، والدقائق تنساب على الجهة الأخرى، بينما تعلوهما آلية دوّارة مكشوفة تبدو وكأنها عقلها الميكانيكي. ثم تأتي الدروع المتحركة — نظام ميكانيكي يفتح ويغلق ليغيّر ملامح الساعة بالكامل ويمنحها تعابير مختلفة في كل مرة

لكن القصة لا تنتهي على المعصم. عند نزع الساعة، تثبّت مباشرة على «الحارس» — رفيق ميكانيكي مزوّد بمقياس حرارة، وعدسة مكبرة، ومصباح يكشف تفاصيلها في الظلام. ومع ما يقارب ١٥٠٠ قطعة تعمل بتناغم، لا تبدو كأنها ساعة مع حامل… بل كأنها آلة كاملة لها شخصية خاصة بها

At the center of the dial sit four visible jewels — directly connected to the movement’s four-barrel construction beneath them.
What is usually hidden inside the watch becomes part of the display itself.

Those four barrels work together to deliver an impressive six-day power reserve, turning technical performance into a visual signature on the dial.

The case follows the same philosophy. Sculpted, curved, and deeply detailed from every angle, it feels more like an object designed in layers than a traditional watch case.
