Types of Dependency Determination, on of hot topics you will encounter in your real exam.

* Mandatory dependencies are those that are created by the nature of the project.
Mandatory dependencies are often legally or contractually required or inherent in the work.
Also referred to as (Hard logic).

Examples of this logic :

1/ You must turn on a server before you can operate it.

2/ Two activities must be performed at the same time (starting and/or finishing at the same time)

3/ An activity cannot begin until another activity is completed.

* Discretionary dependencies are established based on best practice.
Also referred as (soft or prefered logic) .

Examples of this logic :

1/It may best to delay manufacturing until an inventory inspection is completed.

2/ Activity will take place at the same time along with another group of activities.

3/ Activity will begin after few days of the completion of another activity.

*External dependencies
Acknowledge non project related activities that impact project activities outside control of project team.
External dependencies generally involve project with non-project activities.

Examples of this logic :
1/ A new product may not be marketable due to legal/ regularly consideration until government approves distribution.

2/ Get approval from the external organization must be gotten before beginning an activity.

3/ Finishing of a project milestone is connected to the completion of a milestone within another project.

* Internal dependencies are defined as precedence relationships between project activities within the team's control.
