A thrown back to Saudi Arabia.

'Captain' is the norm to address to motorcycle riders in the Arabic Peninsula. We lead our motorcycles, so we're all captains 🫡

Faisal. Captain Faisal.

First, a name on my WhatsApp who kindly invited me to stay at his farm outside of Riyadh in the spring of 2025. I spent there my last days before leaving Saudi for the summer and treated some bloody wounds I got riding without gear.. A beautiful place with big rooms, trees, goats and silence.

Second, a fugitive figure in Al Ahsa. We were heading to the same event to UAE and met at Al Ahsa Bikers clubhouse on the way. 'You're welcome to me anytime', he told me.

Third, Riyadh. He welcomed me in his home in December 2025. Most of the Arabian houses have spaces for guests and the guests are treated like part of the family. I was given a key and access to everything.

The teenagers of the house told me about their schools and their dreams. They tought me to count in Arabic. We shared laughters. I spent hours with the Ethiopian maid in the kitchen, cooking together and holding her new born. Maids are regulars in Arabic homes. They live together, are considered part of the family and treated with respect for the help they provide.

Then I met the extended family: mother, sisters, nieces, all a bunch of cool ladies. No public pictures allowed with the ladies 🥰.

Family is a very important pillar of the Arabian life and they get together every Friday, the Holy Day of Islam. The ladies gather in a separate big cosy room and talk the moon and the stars. Quality time with family.

Last, but not least, Captain Faisal sent me to stay in his family apartment in Jeddah.

This story is about the Arabic hospitality and friendship. Gratefullness has no words to be expressed.

Saudi Arabia - a bit of history

The oldest rocks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are 1200 mil years old

Million years ago, billions of microscopic marine animals died and got burried under hundreds of thousands meters of sediment. Their decaying remains produced gas and liquid hydrocarbons or oil 💰💰💰

Growing crops and herding animals begun 7500 years ago

Trade routes developed between towns 3000 B.C.

Pastoral nomadic life has been registered since Neolithic

Nomadic life imposes harsh constraints. Possessions must be few, light, and flexible. A family could move only a tent, cooking gear, weapons and a few personal items. Its wealth was counted by its herd and its honor.

Nomadic herders roamed throughout Arabia producing wool, meat, milk products and live animals for urban consumers. With their camels, they also provided transportation services for long-distance overland traders.

People in Arabia took the first steps to bringing wild camels under control around 3500 BC. They needed more than a thousand years before fully mastering it.

Before the rise of Islam, there were a multitude of religions in the Arabian Peninsula: various polytheistic belief systems, Hanifas, Zoroastrianism, Christianity and Judaism

Poetry is the most art outstanding achievement developed by Arabs before the rise of Islam. Poets had special status in every tribe

Arabs were peaceful people living in urban settlements or leading the nomadic life before the big ancient imperiums step foot and brought turmoils which lasted for centuries: Rome, Persia, Byzant, Sassanid, Ottoman.

In 1902 King Abdulaziz started the unification of all the regions. The process took 30 years.

On 23rd September 1932, the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was born.
