Be humble or Be Humbled
Obadiah 1:3-4 NKJV
[3] The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’ [4] Though you ascend as high as the eagle, And though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.
I Peter 5:5-6 NKJV
[5] Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” [6] Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.
These two passages—Obadiah 1:3-4 and 1 Peter 5:5-6—work together to reveal a spiritual truth that's often overlooked: pride doesn't just distance us from others—it opposes God Himself.
In Obadiah, God warns the Edomites that their pride gave them a false sense of security and power, but God would bring them down no matter how high they had climbed.
In 1 Peter, the New Testament echoes this principle and gives the remedy: humility. God gives grace—His undeserved favor—to the humble, but resists the proud.
Be humble, otherwise you are starting a battle with God—and you will never win.
Pride invites God’s opposition. But humility invites His grace, protection, and promotion in due time.
Ecclesiastes 10:2 NKJV
"A wise man’s heart is at his right hand, But a fool’s heart at his left."
📜 Right Hand in the Bible
✅ Strength & Power
Psalm 20:6: “He will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.”
Exodus 15:6: “Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power…”
✅ Favor & Honor
Psalm 16:11: “At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Hebrews 1:3: Jesus “sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” — symbolizing supreme honor.
✅ Protection & Salvation
Isaiah 41:10: “I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
⚖️ Left Hand in the Bible
🟠 The left side is much less frequently highlighted positively. In ancient cultures (including Hebrew culture), the left was associated with less favor, awkwardness, or being out of alignment:
Matthew 25:33: Jesus describes the final judgment — sheep on His right (blessed), goats on His left (condemned).
Ecclesiastes 10:2: “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”
🌿 Why this symbolism?
In biblical times, right-handedness was the norm, and the right hand was used for greetings, oaths, and blessings. The left hand, by contrast, was culturally reserved for tasks considered unclean or less honorable.
This wasn’t rooted in biology, but in cultural conventions that made “right” a symbol of:
Order
Honor
God’s blessing
while “left” symbolized:
Disorder
Foolishness
Disfavor
“A wise heart chooses what’s right; a fool’s heart strays left. Choose wisdom!”
