Ensemble of the Novodevichy convent
The Novodevichy convent, in south-west of Moscow, was built during the XVIth and XVIIth century in the moscow baroque' style. It was part of a monastic complex within the defense system of the city. The convent was directly associated with the political, cultural and religious history of Russia, and even more closely to the Moscow Kremlin. It was frequented by women of the tsar's family and aristocracy. Members of the tsar’s family and them entourage are buried in its cemetery. The convent provides an example of the highest accomplishments of Russian architecture with rich interiors and an important collection of paintings and precious objects.
