Extended Play (EP)
Live performance with David Ellis & Steve Teers
An audio‑video digression through the rebellious years of pop‑punk (1957–1985)

February 7 · 7 PM at DIGITAL:CANVAS\
Free Entrance - event for adults

We invite you to a performative evening shaped by improvised sound, memory, and moving image, created and performed live by British artist David Ellis together with Steve Teers, VJ, dancer, and long‑time collaborator.

Extended Play (EP) is an improvised audio‑visual performance by David Ellis exploring the evolution of pop music and its uncanny influence on contemporary culture. Ellis’s digression begins in 1957, drawing from vivid personal recollections - peroxide blonds, roughneck bikers, the liberating frenzy of Stratocaster guitars - and moves through the pivotal years of punk and post‑punk up to 1985. His rapid, intuitive shifts weave together what critic Edward Kirkson has described as “a live poignant playback of the collective memory of five generations.”

The project’s first “dummy run” took place in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2024. It later resurfaced in Cluj-Napoca at ZIZ Art & Social Area, a city Ellis knows well from his advocacy for the legendary “King of Records,” tape‑loop experimentalist Rodion Roșca, and Cinema Arta during 2018–2019.

With Steve Teers joining as an integral creative partner, the performance continued its journey to Bucharest and Brașov, aligning with UNESCO’s global program on memory, “captured history,” and the audiovisual archive.

For the Timișoara edition, Teers - still VJ’ing but now also co‑directing - proposed a subtle shift: a “2 or 3‑degree lean” toward the imagined futures of the 1960s and 1970s. This gesture, a cosmic nod to Livia Mateiaș, co‑founder of artouching, infuses the performance with hints of Pop/Op utopian design, Space Age fashion, and the synth‑saturated prog‑rock atmospheres of the artists’ own teenage years. The result is a continuously reworked, living performance that blends personal archive, cultural memory, and speculative nostalgia.

𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂 { 𝒁𝑶𝑶 } is an interactive project developed by 𝟏𝟑𝐦𝟏𝟎𝐣, built around the question of whether social media platforms function like digital zoological gardens. In an environment where information, languages, colors, symbols, and emojis circulate unpredictably, the project highlights how users observe, display, and shape their identities within an artificial ecosystem. Through this playful analogy, the work encourages visitors to reflect on how social media structures influence behaviors and relationships.

On Monday, December 15, at 15:00 Ioana Bartha will lead a guided tour of the 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐓𝐚𝐛 exhibition. Participation is based on registration via the form linked in the first comment. We look forward to seeing you!
