In Lanzarote island the annual rainfall is about 125-150mm (it rains a little bit on 16 days out of the 365 days) and there are no rivers on the island. You could think it's impossible to cultivate plants in this climate but locals found and ingenious way to collect humidity from the air and direct it towards the root of plants, making it possible for them to thrive.
The moral of the story: don't give up on anything just because the circumstances are not ideal!
