The Cour Marly inside the Louvre is one of those spaces that always makes me stop and stare. Once an open courtyard of the old palace, it’s now a vast, light-filled hall with glass ceilings that flood the sculptures with natural light. Many of the works here came from the royal park at Marly, Louis XIV’s retreat outside Paris.
Walking through, you’ll see horses, nymphs, and mythological figures that once decorated the gardens of the Sun King. The scale is impressive, but it’s also a calmer corner of the Louvre where you can take a breather from the busier galleries. If you love art and history with a bit of breathing space, Cour Marly is worth lingering in.
