Dirofilaria immitis, commonly known as the heartworm, is a mosquito-borne filarial nematode and one of the most important parasitic infections affecting dogs worldwide. Its life cycle depends on the interaction between dogs, mosquitoes, and the environment, making it a relevant example of how vector-borne parasites connect animal health, climate, and public health.

Ticks are among the most fascinating and medically important arthropods in nature. Their ability to adapt, survive in diverse environments, and interact with both wildlife and humans has made them incredibly successful through evolution.
And despite what many people think… ticks aren’t insects. 🕷️

Lice are host-specific ectoparasites of cats and dogs that live permanently on the host’s hair and skin. Species such as Trichodectes canis and Linognathus setosus infest dogs, while Felicola subrostratus parasitizes cats. Infestations may cause irritation, poor coat condition, and in severe cases anemia.
