Trauma—

Trauma literally means “a wound.”

We all have wounds—

Life has its difficulties—

Sometimes we downplay how we have been injured by our interactions and our mistakes.

Many times we carry around shame which can be from trauma.

Shame is our “badness” exposed.

It doesn’t have to be big events that create a traumatic reaction such as abuse or neglect—

Even events which attacked our integrity and wellbeing can be traumatic.

Not everyone who experiences a stressful event will develop a traumatic reaction.

In that sense, the word has been misused and misunderstood broadly—not everything that made you uncomfortable is suddenly “Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.”

Yet, the affects can linger in our mind and our bodies—for years causing a host of symptoms and can lead to a taxing of our body’s abilities—

The result is illness or perhaps abuse of food or alcohol.

We carry the stress in our bodies.

We all need relief from pain.

Yet, not all pain management has the same benefits.

Food, though comforting, is only a brief analgesic.

Alcohol is the same—

When you feel disconnected from yourself due to psychological pain, what helps you get through the day?

Besides working with a professional who understands the process better—have you tried—

-Movement
-Breath Work
-Meditation
-Yoga
-Mindfulness

We all desire a return to our true self—

Numbing only delays the process.
