Shiatsu derives from a Japanese massage modality called anma, based on concepts in traditional Chinese medicine such as the use of chi meridians.
Shiatsu massage therapy relies on the use the fingers, thumbs and palm to apply pressure to various areas of the body’s surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body. Pressure applied to points on the body promotes energy flow and corrects disharmonies throughout the patient's body.
In addition to being a deeply relaxing experience, Shiatsu helps relieve stress, treat pain and illness, and contributes to a patient's overall health and wellbeing. Shiatsu regulates the automatic nervous system activity and stimulates the circulatory, lymphatic and hormonal systems.
An important aspect of shiatsu massage is that is practiced on floor level, the client often lays on a floor mat which allows for the therapist to leverage their body weight to apply deep pressure, while also minimizing the fatigue on their own body.

Aromatherapy works on the basis that the smell of the essential oils trigger the limbic system - the part of the brain that seems to be linked with emotion. This is why it can affect how you feel, and help you relax. Massage helps your skin to absorb warmed essential oils; these oils improve the effectiveness of the massage in treating specific physical problems.
Aromatherapy massage can be particularly good for sleep problems, relieving stress and anxiety, persistent period pains, relieving tiredness or aching muscles; soothing chronic pain; aiding concentration; calming bad temper. It’s not usually advised in pregnancy or for anyone with kidney problems, due to the potency of the essential oils.
