Foarte bucuros cฤƒ aceastฤƒ carte a fost publicatฤƒ ศ™i lansatฤƒ la sfรฎrศ™itul lui 2025, ca un prim rezultat al proiectului Towns | New New Towns New Narratives, la care am contribuit la editare ศ™i conศ›inut, รฎmpreunฤƒ cu o echipฤƒ minunatฤƒ ศ™i pasionatฤƒ de moศ™tenirea ศ™i viitorul Oraศ™elor Noi. Ne-am bucurat de contribuศ›ii extrem de diverse, atรฎt din punct de vedere regional โ€“ din toate colศ›urile Europei โ€“, cรฎt ศ™i disciplinar โ€“ de la istorici de arhitecturฤƒ, cercetฤƒtori, arhitecศ›i ศ™i urbaniศ™ti la artiศ™ti, curatori, manageri culturali ศ™i funcศ›ionari publici.

รŽn secolul al XX-lea, รฎn Europa au fost construite peste 200 de aศ™a-numite Oraศ™e Noi. De obicei, acestea sรฎnt considerate oraศ™e fฤƒrฤƒ istorie ศ™i identitate, รฎn care locuitorii doar trฤƒiesc, fฤƒrฤƒ a se simศ›i aparศ›inรฎnd acelui loc. รŽnsฤƒ, dupฤƒ mai bine de jumฤƒtate de secol, aceste oraศ™e au existat suficient de mult timp pentru a-ศ™i construi o istorie complexฤƒ, deศ™i aceasta este adesea necunoscutฤƒ atรฎt pentru strฤƒini, cรฎt ศ™i pentru locuitori.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ
รŽn ultimii doi ani, oraศ™ele noi din toatฤƒ Europa au รฎncercat sฤƒ-ศ™i identifice povestea prin proiectul ๐๐ž๐ฐ ๐“๐จ๐ฐ๐ง๐ฌ | ๐๐ž๐ฐ ๐๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ
รŽn toate aceste oraศ™e noi s-au dezvoltat forme particulare de viaศ›ฤƒ colectivฤƒ ศ™i creativitate individualฤƒ, adesea รฎn spaศ›iile lฤƒsate libere de instituศ›iile oficiale. โ€žPovestireaโ€ acestor oraศ™e ศ™i a tuturor locuitorilor lor oferฤƒ o bazฤƒ pentru gฤƒsirea identitฤƒศ›ii lor ศ™i pentru reinventarea lor รฎntr-un mod pozitiv.

I am very happy that this book was published and launched at the end of 2025, as a first result of the Towns | New New Towns New Narratives project, to which I contributed in terms of editing and content, together with a wonderful team passionate about the legacy and the future of New Towns. We enjoyed extremely diverse contributions, both regionally - from all corners of Europe - and disciplinary - ranging from architectural historians, researchers, architects, and urban planners to artists, curators, cultural managers, and public officials.

More than 200 so called New Towns have been built in Europe in the twentieth Century. Usually, they are seen as cities without history and identity, where residents merely reside, without belonging. But after more than half a Century, these cities have existed long enough to build up a layered history, though it is often unknown to both outsiders and residents.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ
Some of these cities were built as nuclear cities or they housed the workers in the nearby harbour or mining industry. Some were flagship projects in the Cold war stand-off between Eastern and Western Europe. Others housed the overflow of people in big metropolises. While many fulfilled the promise of public housing as a right, rather than an economic merit, providing equitable infrastructure for living together. In the past two years New Towns from all over Europe tried to identify their story through the project
In all of these New Towns, particular forms of collective life and individual creativity developed, often in the cracks left by the official institutions. โ€˜Telling the Storyโ€™ of these cities and all its residents gives a basis to finding their identity and to reinvent themselves positively. From historic to art exhibitions, from festivals to walks and tours, from new collective spaces to research projects, the examples in this publication show the many new endeavours in European New Towns -from the UK to Bulgaria- to change the perception of these neglected cities.
