🔬 Scientists in China pulled off something that sounded like science fiction: they took cells from the patient's own body, reprogrammed them in the lab into insulin-producing cells and put them back in. The body started making its own insulin again.

🩸 The first case was a 25-year-old woman with type 1 diabetes in Tianjin. They took cells from her fat, turned them into stem cells and then into pancreatic islet cells. Within 75 days she no longer needed insulin shots, and researchers say she has stayed stable for over a year.

💉 Even more recent: a man with long-standing type 2 diabetes in Shanghai got a similar treatment made from his own cells. Researchers reported he stopped depending on insulin and blood-sugar medication, in what they describe as the world's first case for that type of diabetes.

⚕️ The key detail nobody should hide: for now these are individual, experimental cases, not a mass-approved treatment. Experts warn it still needs to be repeated in large trials before calling it a universal cure. But the door is open, and for millions who prick themselves every single day, that's already huge.
