Lately, we notice some glass breakage accidents that has happened during the day in different areas of Qatar.
Here there are some reasons behind these kind of accident:

- Impact from objects, animals or humans that exceed the strength of the glass.
- Nickel sulphide inclusions from small impurities in the glass that change structure over time and create internal stresses in the glass.
- Installation damage from chipping or scratching the edges of the glass with tools or fasteners during handling or installation.
- Poor edge quality from improper cutting or polishing of the glass edges that create weak points in the glass...

So, in order to prevent or reduce the risk of spontaneous glass breakage:

- Use toughened glass in a glazing system to reduce the risk of thermal shock and nickel sulphide breakages. Toughened glass is made by heating and cooling the glass rapidly, which makes it stronger and more resistant to temperature changes.
- Use heat soaked glass as an extra step in the manufacturing process to eliminate most of the weak panes that contain nickel sulphide inclusions. Heat soaking involves a controlled heating cycle that accelerates the expansion of the inclusions and causes the glass to shatter before installation.
- Use laminated glass for overhead or external glazing that may be exposed to falling objects or impact forces. Laminated glass is made by bonding two or more panes of glass with a plastic interlayer, which holds the glass together if it breaks and prevents it from falling.
- Use 3M Safety Window Films for existing glazing that may be prone to spontaneous breakage. These films are made of a clear, durable polyester film that helps hold the glass together if it shatters and also blocks out UV rays and reduces glare and heat build-up.
- Train your staff to handle glassware carefully and avoid chipping or scratching the edges of the glass with tools or fasteners. Dispose of broken or damaged glassware in sharps containers to prevent injury.
- Ensure adequate space around the glass when installing it to allow for expansion and contraction with temperature changes. Avoid placing heating sources near the glass or covering large parts of the glass with static shadows.
