Have you ever wondered about the relationship between the use of cannabis and our brain? Can cannabis exposure increase the risk of psychosis and other psychotic disorders?

Next Monday, 16th October, Manuel Fernandez Esteves M.D. PhD is meeting us at 6pm GMT+1 at AEFMUP's Students' Hall to discuss the topic of cannabis induced psychosis.
Lately, the number of people who are using cannabis-based compounds both for recreational and medicinal purposes is increasing.

Join us to untangle this connection and its associated risks for our mental health.

Have you ever felt butterflies in your belly or had a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach during more stressful times? Or even felt your stomach twist into knots when you were about to get in trouble? Those feelings are the result of your gut and your nervous system working in tandem.

Next Tuesday, 16th May, Dr. Benedita Sampaio Maia, and Joana Ferreira Gomes, M.D, both microbiologists, teachers and researchers at I3S are meeting us at 6pm GMT+1 at AEFMUP's Students' Hall to discuss the unlikely bridge of the microbiota-gut-brain axis and how it affects Global Health.

Experts often refer to the gut microbiome as our “second brain” but research has only just scratched the surface of the mind-microbiome connection. How important is our microbiome in determining how we feel, how we behave and how we act? Could we modulate these microbes therapeutically to improve brain health?
Come join us and get some insight on this matter.
