The other day I was sitting with my grandmother, and I asked her about her best friend. A whole light went off in her eyes as she smiled and told me all their stories. Stories from 70 odd years ago. Telling me about the nights where they were the last ones left dancing and walking each other home, down the street laughing… still dancing.
It is not uncommon for my friends to hear me yelling how much I love them, but in this moment I felt my heart glow. I could see the moments I’m living right now, and know that these will be some of the moments I’ll hold and engrave into my mind and heart the longest. What a ridiculous honor it is to meet a random stranger that looks at you and all your fu**ed up s**t, proceed to laugh and say ‘I f**k with it’, takes your heart, your hand and walks by your side henceforth. The people who look at you and know when you need advice or just an ear to listen empathetically. The ones who see you’re carrying some heavy s**t, so they come and carry half before you even get a chance to protest. Who see your qualities and shout them to the world because you don’t want to, and see your flaws as a beautiful part of you.
The ones who hold your heart.
The ones you walk home with.
Dance down the street with.
The family you get to choose and that chose you.
Your soulmates.
I am forever so eternally grateful.
Everyday.
When everything goes left, I know I have them and so everything is right.
I know I say it all the time, but go tell the people you love, that you love them.
