Yesterday, the Portuguese government approved the State Budget for 2024, concluding that the Non-Habitual Resident (NHR) regime will see significant alterations for new residents arriving next year.
For those already registered in the NHR program and for those who attain tax resident status by December 31st and opt for NHR status by March 31st, the existing benefits will persist throughout the 10-year period.
However, for new tax residents arriving after January 1st 2024, the conventional NHR regime will no longer be applicable. Nevertheless, the 2024 State Budget introduces specific provisions pertaining to tax incentives for individuals, encompassing tax exemption and incentives for scientific research and innovation.
If you are looking to make this transition into the Portuguese ecosystem, AGPC provides you with tax advice needed and aids you in the planning process.
