The Pico do Arieiro is the third highest peak of Madeira. It has 1818m of altitude, just after the Pico Ruivo with 1861m and with 1851m.

is located in the hills of , and is a must visit attraction, as it allows you to have a view over much of the island and (if the weather allows it).

Here you can see from the east end, the tip of , to the and the mountains of . You can also see the , on the valley floor.

It is easily accessible by car, and the journey from the centre of Funchal takes about half an hour, Expected to rise toward the , always following after spending this beautiful parish, to the , where you should turn left towards the and Pico do Areeiro.

It is in the Pico do Arieiro that begins one of the most spectacular walking routes (PR1 – ), which goes to the . This route has a length of about 7km, through cliffs, steep slopes and some tunnels. During the course, you will be able to observe several types of realities, from wild vegetation, arid and rocky scenery, at high altitudes, as well as overworked landscapes in the lower elevations, as in locations that can catch sight. It is advisable to take some precautions, including the use of lanterns and clothing and appropriate footwear.
