The rise of quantum computing is no longer just a futuristic concept—it’s a looming reality with significant implications for data security. Current encryption methods, like asymmetric cryptography, are at risk of being rendered obsolete by the computing power of quantum machines, potentially within this decade.
The risk is heightened by “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” attacks, where encrypted data is stolen today with the expectation of decrypting it later using quantum technology. Industries handling sensitive information, such as finance, healthcare, and government, are particularly vulnerable.
Info-Tech highlights that while 31% of advanced IT departments plan to invest in post-quantum cryptography (PQC) by 2025, many organizations are unprepared for this monumental shift.
PQC is designed to resist both classical and quantum attacks, ensuring the long-term security of financial data, intellectual property, and operational systems. Use cases include safeguarding encrypted messages, protecting contracts, and shielding valuable data from future quantum-powered adversaries.
Transitioning to PQC isn’t a straightforward task—it’s a global challenge on a scale larger than Y2K, with potentially severe consequences for those who delay. Now is the time for organizations to plan, budget, and take proactive steps to secure their data against quantum threats.
How is your organization preparing for this critical transformation?
