LoRa (Long Range) is a wireless communication technology designed to send small amounts of data over very long distances while using very little power. It is widely used in IoT applications where sensors and devices need to operate for months or even years on a single battery. In this example, a microcontroller communicates with an E32 LoRa module through a UART interface. The transmitter converts digital data into a LoRa radio signal, which is received by another LoRa module and passed to the receiving microcontroller. Depending on the antenna, terrain, and local regulations, communication can reach up to 15 km or more with a clear line of sight. LoRa operates on sub-GHz frequencies such as 433 MHz and supports configurable data rates, bandwidths, and spreading factors to balance speed, range, and reliability. Common applications include smart farming, industrial automation, remote monitoring, environmental sensing, asset tracking, and smart city infrastructure.
