Legendary Cuban singer Celia Cruz has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2026, becoming the first salsa artist and Afro-Latina to receive this recognition. The official announcement was made on April 14, 2026, marking a milestone not only for Latin music but also for the history of rock and global popular culture.
The performer, known worldwide as the “Queen of Salsa,” was honored posthumously in the Early Influence Award category, which recognizes artists whose work directly influenced the development of rock & roll, even if their music does not strictly belong to the genre. In Cruz’s case, her musical legacy and the strength of Afro-Caribbean rhythms played a key role in shaping the evolution of popular music in the United States.
The official ceremony will take place in the city of Cleveland, home of the Hall of Fame, during the second half of 2026, where her legacy will be celebrated alongside other influential artists from different generations.
