Almost always a size 18 regardless of your mesh gauge (unless you’re stitching “petit point”) Why 18? Not 20 or 22? Because the larger width eye will better protect and preserve your soft fiber as it passes through the canvas, AND the larger blunt tip makes it easy to avoid piercing either the canvas warp/weft or the adjacent completed stitches, which is very important for achieving an even texture on your finished work! Also, size 18 is easier to thread, of course 👊🏼
