This breed goes back to the 1800s, where they were used to help Irish huntsmen. Now, they are famously good family dogs due to their sweet temperament and love for a game of fetch!

The dark stripes of black tigers are disproportionately large, and the main color is poorly visible behind the large stripes, so the skin appears dark in color.
In the middle of the 20th century in Asia, they tried to specially breed white tigers, crossing white individuals exclusively among themselves. In order to inherit white, both parents must have the genetic mutation. This led to inbreeding.

In 1867, the British zoologist George Gray described it under the name Tigris regalis. Since 1929, the tiger has been assigned to the genus Panthera.

The total number is about 4000-6500 individuals, of which the Bengal tiger (nominative subspecies) is the most numerous, accounting for 40% of the entire population.
