10-lecie outlines - Nowamuzyka.pl W roku 2016 swoją działalność rozpoczął wrocławski label outlines, który konsekwentnie promuje brzmienia bezpośrednio związane lub inspirujące się footworkiem. Z okazji rocznicy planowana jest seria wydawnictw - pierwsze właśnie się ukazało.

The first release marking the 10th anniversary of outlines is an EP by French producer Romain Dessert, who creates under the name SNKLS. Romain Dessert made his debut in the alternative arm of outlines, guides, in 2022. „Glu River” was characterized by a distinctive and sharp sound set at a tempo of 160 bpm. Three years after the release of this album, SNKLS returns with four new tracks supplemented by four remixes prepared by Japanese producers.

The first part of „Concrète Continuum”, Romain Dessert's original tracks, in some way refer to his previous EP, „Essence”, released by Polaar in 2024. All four tracks have a similar structure and are variations of themselves, mutating into potential versions in alternative realities. SNKLS seems to combine all his previous inspirations, which appeared on „Half Horn EP”, „Glu River”, and the aforementioned „Essence”. However, the tracks that make up „Concrète Continuum” are more reminiscent of fractal compositions written for acoustic instruments and electronics. These tracks could have been written by Mark Fell or Ryoji Ikeda, and the rhythmic layer could have been performed by Igor Cavalera himself. It's like combining gabba with glitch, IDM, and the music of Philip Glass.

The separate section „Concrète Continuum” consists of four additional tracks, which are new versions of the original tunes. All remixes were created by Japanese producers and sound artists. „Dérive Concrète” in the NAT000 version is a track that constantly changes its structure, pulsating and sparkling with fragments of details known from the original. In „Trig Conflict,” RUOH uses a simple loop of several sounds taken from the original version to open up an alternative reality full of melody and dense textures. Skip Club Orchestra's version of „Multimotif” is a glitchy footwork track bordering on noise, with Phife Dawg's looped words in the foreground. Oyubi's version of „Sous Continuum” is a combination of footwork-juke rhythms and breaks.

Both sections of „Concrète Continuum,” original and remixed, present a fresh and surprising take on footwork and 160bpm tempo, perfectly developing the musical concept of complexity, minimalism, and abstraction underlying outlines/guides.
