BrineRIS Project at “Sustainable Lithium for Europe 2025” seminar in Brussels

A seminar entitled “Sustainable Lithium for Europe 2025” organized by the European Lithium Institute (eLi) was held in Brussels on May 15, 2025, bringing together more than 70 key representatives from industry, academia and public administration involved in the development of the European lithium value chain.

The presentation of the results of the BrineRIS project, focusing on identifying the potential of geothermal brines as a source of lithium in selected RIS (Regional Innovation Scheme) countries in Southern and Eastern Europe, was particularly interesting for the participants.

Dr. Magdalena Worsa-Kozak, project manager, presented key results of the consortium’s work such as the results of chemical analyses in partner countries and an interactive platform depicting the distribution of lithium concentrations in Europe, and emphasized the importance of the project for building a sustainable and resilient lithium supply chain in lower-tech regions.

🌍 The range of topics included:
- supply chain security and EU strategy,
- innovations in lithium recycling,
- practical workshops on eLi initiatives for 2025-2026.

The Geothermal Lithium Networking Event is behind us!
-More than 50 participants from all over the world (Chile, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Spain, Belgium, Brazil, Hungary, France, Finland)
-Three exciting keynote sessions full of factual knowledge and practical solutions
-Fascinating debate on the legal aspects of lithium recovery from geothermal brines.
In between sessions, participants had the opportunity to make valuable contacts, exchange experiences, and build relationships that could result in future cooperation. The atmosphere was conducive to exchanging knowledge and creating new ideas, and the event's international nature added to its unique value.
We would like to thank all the speakers and participants for their presence, commitment, and positive energy. This makes us feel even more motivated to continue working on the future of sustainable extraction from geothermal brines.
The materials from this incredible meeting will soon be available on our website: https://brineris.pwr.edu.pl/?page_id=2075.
