TikTok Ban: What It Means and What You Can Learn From It

By now, you’ve probably seen the news. The Supreme Court has passed a support of banning TikTok in the U.S., and the ban is set to take effect 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸.

While there’s still a chance something could change—like a U.S.-based buyout of TikTok’s operations—the ban seems very likely at the moment.

This news is especially tough for creators and businesses that rely heavily (or entirely) on TikTok.

𝐒𝐨, 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐰?

This situation is a wake-up call for anyone using social media platforms to grow their brand or business. Platforms can be banned, go bankrupt, or lose users, especially when looking 10–15 years down the line. You need to be prepared.

Here’s what we can learn and do moving forward:

𝟏. 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

- Don’t rely on a single platform. Spread your presence across multiple social media channels.

- Even if the same content doesn’t perform as well elsewhere, having it on another platform is better than 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨.

𝟐. 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐤𝐓𝐨𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭

- Move your existing TikTok videos to other short-form video platforms.

- Start uploading now to keep your audience engaged, even if TikTok is banned.

𝟑. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞

- Build a presence on multiple platforms to safeguard your business.

- Understand the risks of social media platforms being run by corporations. At the end of the day, you don’t own the platform—you’re at their mercy.

𝟒. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲

- Find ways to connect with your audience outside of social media. Build an email list, create a community on platforms you own, or explore alternatives like Discord or Slack.

- This ensures that you don’t lose your entire audience if one platform disappears.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲

This TikTok ban is a reminder that social media platforms are tools, not guarantees. Diversify, plan ahead, and take control of your audience to ensure your business thrives—no matter what happens. Other governments might follow the U.S.’s lead, so acting now isn’t just smart—it’s essential.

Good luck.

3 Ways to Establish Credibility as a New Professional Advisor:

Getting started as an advisor can feel like an uphill battle.

You need clients to build trust. But you need trust to gain clients.

🔁 It's a loop problem.

So how do you break out this loop? Here's my advice:

𝟏. 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐳𝐞

When clients look for an advisor, they want proof. The more clients you work with, the more testimonials you can collect. The more testimonials you collect the larger scale projects you can work on.

𝟐. 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬

Results matter to potential clients. Make sure you document the impact you have for your clients:
- Example: “Saved $10,000 in property taxes on a client's property sale.”
- Use: Before/ After
- Create detailed client case studies walking through your unique approach for your client's problem

𝟑. 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 (𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭!)

People are very very wary these days—written testimonials are easy to fake. You just write something slap a photo of a random person, add a name, and there you go a 'testimonial'.

Video testimonials, on the other hand, show your client is a real person, and it's easier to answer potential client pain points with strategic questions you ask your client. (Tomorrow, I'll share my favorite interview questions.)

Any other strategies you use?

Great reasons to NOT be on Social Media:
👇

→ Your target audience loves sending and receiving smoke signals.
→ You prefer sending messages by carrier pigeon.
→ You believe socializing should only happen in person.
→ Your marketing team consists of your grandma's knitting circle, and they just don't get hashtags. .. .. .. .. ..
(Hmm... still not convinced! 😆)
