Who actually benefits from long residence procedures in Poland? - that might be controversial, I know.

Many foreigners complain that residence permit procedures in Poland can take one, two, or even three years. And they are right — in many cases, this is stressful, unfair, and exhausting.

But there is an uncomfortable truth:
👉 Long procedures sometimes also “help” certain groups of people.

1️⃣ **People who only need more time in Poland**

Sometimes a foreigner does not need a residence card for many years. They only need time to finish something important.

For example:

🎓 a student whose visa is ending, but who still needs more time to finish studies and receive a diploma;

👨‍👩‍👧 family members who came to Poland on a short visa and want to stay a little longer.

If they submit a residence application on time and the case is formally accepted, their stay in Poland may remain legal while the procedure is pending.
But this should never be treated as a “trick.” Every case must have a real legal basis and should be checked carefully.

**2️⃣ People who lost their job or want to change work**

A foreigner with a temporary residence and work permit is often tied to a specific employer.
If they lose their job, they must inform the office within the legal deadline. In practice, long procedures sometimes give people more time to look for a new job and reorganize their life in Poland.
For many foreigners, this delay becomes a kind of “safety period” — even if the system was not designed to work this way.

**3️⃣ People preparing to move to another country**

Some foreigners already know they do not want to stay in Poland long-term.
They may be waiting for a visa, documents, or an immigration process in another country.
A pending residence procedure in Poland can sometimes give them time to arrange their next step legally.

**4️⃣ Some employers**

This is one of the most difficult parts.
Some employers know that foreigners are afraid to lose their job because their residence card depends on it.
As a result, some workers accept bad conditions, low salaries, pressure, or unfair treatment — because they are scared that changing jobs will mean starting the whole residence process again.
Long procedures can make foreign workers feel trapped.

**5️⃣ The system itself**

When delays become “normal,” public administration workers stop working effectively
Foreigners wait. Employers wait. Lawyers wait. Officials are overloaded. And everyone starts saying: “Unfortunately, this is how it works.” But it should not work this way and there is no feeling of responsibility...

**6️⃣ Agents, intermediaries, paralegals, lawyers and dishonest advisers**

When people are desperate, they are ready to pay for promises like:
❌ “I will speed up your case”
❌ “I know someone in the office”
❌ “You will get your card faster with me”
Sometimes this helps. Very often, it does not. And in the worst cases, people lose money, time, and trust. There are also legal, true, honest lawyers and advisor who might really help to speed up by the court complain but you have to make sure you meet the one.

✅ My conclusion

Long immigration procedures are not only an administrative problem.
They affect people’s lives, jobs, families, employers, and mental health.
Sometimes delays give people extra time but mostly they create fear, dependency, and confusion.

That is why every foreigner should understand their legal situation before taking action — especially before changing jobs, leaving Poland, submitting a new application, or paying someone for “fast results.”

Today we start with good news: a permanent residence permit for my long-time client and friend. 🥳

However, this post isn't about bragging about a positive outcome. As always, I have some important and useful information: ❗️

1️⃣ The decision doesn't always have to arrive by mail (regular post office) and doesn't need to be stamped and signed. Since we've been using the e-delivery portal for a long time, the office sends all correspondence to you and me in digital form. The document delivered to you via the e-delivery system has full legal force, just like a letter in an envelope.

2️⃣ Good news! The decision granting a permanent residence permit, mentioned here, was issued even before the estimated decision date indicated by Masovian offie! Perhaps this is a sign that at least the Warsaw office is no longer experiencing such significant delays!

3️⃣ Please remember that if you have a permanent residence permit, you can apply for Polish citizenship after 3 years, BUT the Polish government intends to change these 3 years, maybe to 5 or 10 years!
