In latest study from Isfjorden (Svalbard) we are using a number of environmental loggers to predict kelp forests presence. The results show that it is not only the obvious factor – light – that matters for predicitive models. In fact, machine learning analysis (XGBoost) revealed that parameters such as electrical conductivity, pH, and water temperature play an even stronger role in determining where kelp can thrive.
