Time-optimal supported by PD control
In principle, the time-optimal is a “bang-bang” control. The PD controller operates to maintain the sphere at constant levels. This controller is pre-tuned to preserve the damping and elasticity coefficients from level to level. If an abrupt change in the desired control level happens then the PD controller is replaced by the time-optimal open loop strategy (stored in the computer memory). It lasts until the time-optimal horizon is reached. The three-dimensional trajectory achieves the target at the new steady state of the sphere position, its velocity, and the electromagnet current.
