Tech Upgrade: Expectations vs. Reality.
At BlueRider Software, we love staying on the cutting edge, but in IT, "new" often translates to "new challenges." We recently tackled a project upgrade from React 16 to React 18.
It seemed like a standard procedure... until our QA team entered the chat.
The Diagnosis: Massive regression. The system simply stopped behaving as expected. The Cause: React 18’s changed rendering process. The new Automatic Batching mechanism—while great for performance—impacted asynchronicity in a way the legacy code definitely didn't anticipate.
The takeaway? We had to roll up our sleeves to clean up the defects, but this situation confirmed our golden rule: Without solid regression testing, even a "simple" upgrade can crash production.
That’s why in our projects, Quality Assurance is just as important as the coding itself. We don't deploy until we are 100% sure.
