The Department of Economics successfully conducted a webinar on “Redistributive Inflation and Decentralized Digital Money,” with over 120 participants joining online and in person.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Shakeel, Assistant Professor, explained key concepts of redistributive inflation, emerging inequalities, and the evolving role of decentralized digital money, supported by global and Pakistan-specific data. He highlighted the potential of blockchain-based digital assets in addressing inflationary pressures and reducing inequality in Pakistan.

The discussion also addressed digital inequality (“information apartheid”) and emphasized solutions such as digital literacy, improved internet access, and user-friendly financial systems. The session stressed expanding access to digital and financial markets, especially for Pakistan’s youth, where a large proportion of the population is under 30.

He also shared policy recommendations for the State Bank of Pakistan, including greater transparency in monetary data, secure digital infrastructure, and a clear regulatory framework for digital finance. The webinar concluded with an engaging Q&A session on the future of digital finance and economic inclusion in Pakistan.

National Symposium on Mountain Biodiversity & Climate Change – Chitral 2026

The National Symposium on “Mountain Biodiversity & Climate Change: Risks, Adaptation, and Opportunities in Chitral Region” will be held on 18th May 2026 in Chitral, Pakistan.

The symposium is being organized by the Animal Genomics & Biodiversity Research Group, Department of Biological Sciences, Virtual University of Pakistan and University of Chitral in collaboration with:
▪ Department of Zoology & Department of Botany, University of Chitral
▪ Livestock & Dairy Development Department, KPK
▪ Wildlife Department, KPK
▪ Yak and Camel Foundation, Germany

This scientific gathering aims to bring together researchers, academicians, students, conservationists, policymakers, and development professionals to discuss the emerging impacts of climate change on mountain ecosystems and to explore sustainable strategies for biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and community adaptation in the Chitral region.

With its unique ecological landscape and rich biodiversity, Chitral offers an ideal platform for meaningful scientific dialogue on conservation and sustainable development in northern Pakistan.

Researchers, students, professionals, and stakeholders are warmly invited to participate and contribute toward safeguarding our precious mountain ecosystems for future generations.
