Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has strongly criticized Donald Trump for allowing a temporary waiver on sanctions for Russian oil exports. According to Zelensky, the move could provide Russia with up to $10 billion in additional revenue, potentially strengthening Vladimir Putin and prolonging the ongoing Russia–Ukraine War.

The decision came as global oil prices surged following escalating tensions and conflict in the Middle East. Washington granted a 30-day waiver allowing countries to purchase Russian oil already stranded at sea, aiming to stabilize global energy markets. At the same time, the United States announced the release of 172 million barrels from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve to reduce pressure on oil prices.

Speaking during a visit to Paris alongside Emmanuel Macron, Zelensky warned that easing pressure on Moscow risks undermining diplomatic efforts and prolonging the conflict. Ukraine, meanwhile, continues to target Russian energy infrastructure as diplomatic negotiations remain stalled.

Zelensky emphasized that sustained economic pressure on Russia is essential if the international community hopes to push toward meaningful peace and security guarantees for Ukraine.

Iran has also warned that countries supporting the U.S. and Israel could face restrictions on oil shipments through the strait, while those distancing themselves may receive safe passage. The situation has already shaken global energy markets, pushing oil prices above $100 per barrel before slightly easing.

The conflict is now not only a military confrontation but also a battle over global energy routes and economic pressure that could impact economies around the world.
