The beauty of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is often described in eloquent terms by those who witnessed him. One such description comes from Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a clear night while he was wearing a red cloak. I turned my sight between him and the moon, and to me, he was more handsome and beautiful than the moon."1

This comparison highlights the extraordinary beauty and radiance of the Prophet (peace be upon him). In fact, his beauty was said to surpass that of the moon itself. The moon, with its luminous glow, is a symbol of purity and guidance. Similarly, the light of the Prophet’s face is intrinsic to his noble character and mission, never leaving him.

The phrase “more beautiful than the moon” emphasizes not only physical beauty but also the spiritual and moral excellence of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Just as the moon is more radiant, permanent, and imparts far more benefit than a sword, the comparison was altered to that of the moon. It signifies a beauty that transcends mere appearance and encompasses the entirety of his being.
