This collector-level antique Serapi rug, comes to us after having been in a single family for generationsI bought it from a 300 year old English Manor House near Windsor, England; whose contents were being auctioned off before going to property developers.
The double wide border design is exceptionally tribal for the antique Serapi style. The Serapi carpet weavers frequently used large areas of undyed and unbleached camel hair, whose ivory and camel tones provided contrast to the wide range of vegetable color wool..
The rarity of the best antique Serapis with pure vegetable dyes, graphic designs and inspired artistry make them excellent investments, occupying an important position in both the American and international art markets.
Antique Serapis have historically been the carpet of choice in early American state and federal buildings, including the White House

The rugs from Tabriz are very popular for the designs and colours they use. Tabriz rug weavers produced tight densely-knotted structures and elaborate floral displays.
This lightly colored wool and silk combination carpet has a unique silk ivory field and dark wool border.
This design is called Benam.

ANTIQUE, PERSIAN KHORASSAN RUG. 8.3 x 7.2 ft £600.00

The classic `TREE OF LIFE` design is displayed in intricate detail on this masterpiece.
Rich VEGETABLE DYES in tones of green / rust /gold, form the background of the central garden motif, surrounded by flowering trees, and animals.

This carpet is remarkable for its symmetry of form, with mirror images of plants, animals and birds balancing the two sides.
Pairs of birds rendered in several shades, stylized trees and flowers. Wild jungle animals amongst running deer and lions.
The main border echoes the theme of the jungle, with repeating motifs of wild animal hunting scenes.
The rich colours of the intricately woven motifs of the inner and outer borders, harmonize with those of the main panel.

This rug I bought from a Cambridge Professor, who was selling his Grandfather`s Estate.
The Grandfather, a British Army Major, was stationed in the Middle East during World War 2; from where he brought home this rug.
So, considering it is over 70 years ago; This vintage rug is still in a reasonably good condition.
