ISLAMABAD: The federal

government on Wednesday announced a two-day public holiday on August 8-9 as federal Ashura holidays, THETRENDINGPAK News reported.

According to a notification issued by the government, the federal cabinet approved a two-day holiday on account of Ashura.

It is pertinent to mention here that Youm-e-Ashura will be observed on August 9 (Tuesday).

Covid SOPs

On July 22, the government issued new coronavirus guidelines to be observed during the Majalis in the month of Muharram.

According to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the wearing of mask and use of sanitisers have been made mandatory during the Muharram Majalis and processions.

LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has appointed former Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar as its parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly, THETRENDINGPAK News reported.

A notification regarding his appointment was also issued.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan appointed Buzdar as parliamentary leader after holding a consultation with Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and party leaders.

Earlier in the day, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan approved an 18-member working cabinet for the Punjab Assembly.

According to details, PTI Chairman Imran Khan has approved an 18-member cabinet for the newly formed PTI government in Punjab. Only PTI ministers would take oath in the first phase, PTI sources.

PTI MPAs including Yasmin Rashid, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Raja Yasir Humayun, Ali Afzal Sahi, Hashim Dogar and Fayaz-ul-Hassan Chohan has been added to the cabinet.

The time and date of the oath ceremony of the ministers would be announced later.

The rupee’s losses continued on Thursday as the local currency closed at a record low of Rs239.94 against the dollar in the interbank market.
According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the rupee lost 4.48, or 1.89 per cent, compared to yesterday’s close of 236.02 by 12:03pm.
Consequently, the rupee was trading at 240.5 against the greenback.
The rupee closed at 239.94, down 3.92, or 1.63pc, according o the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
