In Pakistan flu season starts from October each year and extends till March next year

Everyone should get vaccinated against flu as soon as possible at the start of flu season each year (i.e. October)

ROUTINE VACCINATION DOSE

Age less than 6 months: Not recommended
Age 6 months to 35 months: 1 intramuscular dose annually
Age 3 to 8 years: 1 intramuscular dose annually
Age above 8 years: 1 intramuscular dose annually

IF VACCINATING FIRST TIME

Age less than 6 months: Not recommended
6 months to 35 months age:
2 intramuscular doses of 0.25 ml at least 4 weeks apart
3 years to 8 years of age:
2 intramuscular doses of 0.5 ml at least 4 weeks apart
Above 8 years of age and adults: 1 intramuscular dose of 0.5 ml only

IF ALREADY VACCINATED PREVIOUSLY

Age less than 6 months: Not recommended
6 months to 35 months of age:
1 intramuscular dose of 0.25 ml annually
3 years to 8 years of age:
1 intramuscular dose of 0.5 ml annually
Above 8 years of age and adults: 1 intramuscular dose of 0.5 ml annually

INJECTION ADMINISTRATION SITE

6 months to 35 months: Intramuscular injection at anterolateral part of thigh
Above 3 years of age and adults: Intramuscular injection at deltoid muscle of upper arm

PREGNANCY, BREAST FEEDING MOTHERS

Discuss with your doctor first before flu shot administration
CDC recommends that pregnant women should by vaccinated by inactivated vaccine only (all above brands in Pakistan are inactivated vaccines) but not with intra nasal flu vaccine (live vaccine) which is not available in Pakistan

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PURCHASE OF FLU VACCINE
Make sure that vaccine is exclusively made for the flu season year 2019 and 2020
Make sure that vaccine is properly stored in refrigerator and not placed in freezer (do not freeze it) and keep protected from sunlight

WARNINGS AND Precautions
Persons with the history of hypersensitivity to eggs, sulfites should not receive this vaccine
Person with skin allergy only (hives formation on skin) to eggs can receive this vaccine
Delay vaccination when you have fever related illnesses until illness is resolved
