As a doctor in Pakistan, the BBC exposé on Taunsa breaks my heart — but it cannot surprise us. 331 children infected with HIV through reused syringes at a government hospital. A medical superintendent who denied wrongdoing. A suspended official reinstated months later. A system that failed these children at every step.
This is not the first time. Ratodero. Sargodha. Multan. The pattern repeats because accountability does not.
If you or your family ever receive an injection anywhere in Pakistan — public or private — you have the right to demand a sealed, new syringe opened in front of you. You have the right to say no if something looks wrong. These are not unreasonable requests. They are the minimum standard of safe care.
And please — HIV does not spread through touch, hugs, or shared meals. These children need treatment and dignity, not stigma. #
