Ultrasound-Powered Artificial Muscles
A new kind of artificial muscle has emerged from ETH Zürich! Reported in Nature, researchers developed soft, biocompatible gels embedded with microscopic bubbles that act like natural muscle.
When pulsed with ultrasound waves, these "bubble muscles" wirelessly contract, grip, and lift with surprising strength. This breakthrough opens the door for lifelike, agile soft robots for applications like minimally invasive surgical tools, targeted drug delivery patches, and soft grippers—all controlled by sound instead of wires or pumps.
