The respected Syrian Islamic scholar and spiritual mentor, Sheikh Ramadan Deeb, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of approximately 108.

A Lifetime of Service:
For decades, Sheikh Ramadan Deeb devoted his life to teaching the Holy Quran and Islamic sciences in Damascus, Syria. He regularly delivered lessons at Abu al-Nour Mosque and the historic Umayyad Mosque, inspiring generations of students.

Unwavering Dedication:
Despite his advanced age and declining health, which required the use of an oxygen tube, he continued teaching the Holy Quran with remarkable patience, humility, and sincerity.

An Extraordinary Journey of Knowledge:
Unable to read or write during the French occupation of Syria, he began his formal education at the age of 20. His determination led him to earn a Bachelor's degree at 65 and a PhD at 89, demonstrating that the pursuit of knowledge knows no age.

A Lasting Legacy:
His teachings reached students from around the world, and he authored several works on Islamic spirituality, self-purification (Tazkiyah), and the remembrance of Allah (Dhikr). His legacy of faith, knowledge, and service will continue to inspire future generations.

Imam Shamil (1797–1871), widely known as the "Lion of the Caucasus" and also referred to as the "Caucasian Eagle," was a renowned political, military, and spiritual leader who led the North Caucasian resistance against the Russian Empire.

He united many Muslim communities in Dagestan and Chechnya under the Caucasian Imamate and led a prolonged struggle against Russian expansion in the Caucasus.

His resistance lasted for more than 25 years (approximately 1834–1859), making him one of the most prominent figures in the history of the Caucasian resistance.

After years of exile in Russia, Imam Shamil was granted permission to perform Hajj in 1869. Following his pilgrimage to Makkah, he traveled to Madinah, where he passed away in February 1871. He was buried in the historic Jannat al-Baqi Cemetery.
