Project Clean-Green

Around the world, women continue to be underrepresented in political decision-making despite making up nearly half of the global population. According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU), women currently hold only about 27.5% of parliamentary seats worldwide. Rwanda leads the world with women occupying over 60% of seats in its lower house, demonstrating how inclusive policies can transform political representation. By contrast, several countries still have fewer than 5% women in parliament. Pakistan currently ranks in the lower half globally for women's parliamentary representation, highlighting that there is still considerable progress to be made in ensuring women's equal participation in democratic processes.

Recognizing this opportunity, our Co-Founder, Mr. Furqan Hameed Khan, has been working through Project Clean-Green(PCG) to strengthen women's democratic participation at the grassroots level. Through civic education workshops, voter awareness campaigns, and community dialogues across rural and underserved communities, he has been engaging young girls and first-time women voters on democratic values, constitutional rights, local governance, electoral processes, and the importance of informed political participation.

Our initiatives have reached thousands of young women, helping them understand that participation in democracy extends far beyond casting a vote. It includes engaging with local institutions, contributing to community decision-making, advocating for inclusive governance, and becoming leaders within their own communities.

At Project Clean-Green, we believe that every informed young woman strengthens democracy. By investing in civic knowledge today, we are helping build a future where women are not only represented in democratic institutions but are also empowered to shape them.

Pakistan has made encouraging progress in narrowing the gender gap in voter registration, reducing it from 12% in 2017 to around 7.4%, following targeted initiatives by the Election Commission of Pakistan and its partners. However, Sindh continues to be among the provinces where a gender gap in political participation remains, underscoring the need for sustained community engagement and civic education.

Recognizing this challenge, our Founder, Mr. Taimoor Siddiqui, has been working through Project Clean-Green (PCG) to empower women and girls in rural Sindh with a deeper understanding of democratic rights, civic governance, voter education, and meaningful political participation. Through grassroots workshops and community dialogues, our initiatives encourage women not only to exercise their right to vote but also to engage confidently with local government institutions and contribute to community decision-making.

At PCG, we believe that when women are informed, communities become more inclusive. When communities are inclusive, democracy becomes stronger.
