The viral video showing a young girl offering her lollipop to a robber has been confirmed as fake.

The video, which began circulating in WhatsApp groups on Sunday evening, quickly amassed tens of millions of views and was even aired by several mainstream media outlets.

The undated clip, complete with fake timestamps and digital edits to mimic CCTV footage, depicted a robber entering a store at an undisclosed location. He was shown assaulting the shopkeeper and forcing him to hand over valuables at gunpoint.

As the robber was leaving, the video showed a young girl—allegedly the shopkeeper’s daughter—offering him her lollipop. The clip then claimed the robber returned the stolen items, patted the girl on the head, and left empty-handed.

While some viewers suspected the video was staged, hundreds of thousands praised the “kind-hearted” robber, suggesting he “seemed to have been forced into a life of crime.
