Thermal insulation was applied to the existing façades before they were clad in dark ALUCOBOND® panels in four different shades of grey. The dark, glossy façade material does not only ensure a contemporary, elegant appearance, ALUCOBOND® also provides a high level of resistance to weathering and vandalism. Panels were chosen in different formats, sizes and gloss levels as a means of introducing more variety into the large expanses of façade and reducing them to a more human scale. A new office quarter has been built precisely here, at the airport, and the Smart Office by SOP Architekten is set right in the middle. The Smart Office has a lot in common with Düsseldorf itself: at first glance, it looks business-like, elegant, urbane and sizeable in its dark ALUCOBOND® façade in terra Lava Nera, architecturally in keeping with the characteristic post-war modernism in the state capital. The pavilion’s architecture is also impressive, mainly thanks to the glass and dark ALUCOBOND® façade which envelops the exterior surfaces.
