A Canadian national has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of illegal possession of dangerous drugs in connection with one of the largest drug seizures ever recorded in the Philippines.
The Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Tagaytay City handed down the sentence after prosecutors successfully presented evidence linking the foreign national to approximately 1.4 tons of suspected shabu worth an estimated ₱9.68 billion seized in Alitagtag, Batangas in April 2024.
Authorities said the suspect was identified through extensive intelligence operations, surveillance, and coordinated investigations. He was later arrested in Tagaytay City during a joint law enforcement operation in May 2024.
Police records showed that the foreign national was reportedly the subject of an Interpol Red Notice and was being monitored for alleged involvement in transnational drug trafficking activities. Additional suspected illegal drugs were also reportedly recovered during his arrest.
The Philippine National Police welcomed the court's decision, describing it as a significant victory in the government's ongoing campaign against illegal drugs.
Officials emphasized that the ruling sends a strong message that individuals involved in illegal drug operations—whether local or foreign nationals—will be held accountable under Philippine law.
