Tatay is a tricycle driver around Del Fierro. When we offered some food, he quietly asked if he could also have something for his merienda.

Tatay: Thank you, ah. Gusto niyo? Sa inyo na itong tinapay ko.
(he’s carrying a bag of bread)

In that simple moment, I was deeply touched. We gave a small act and expected nothing in return. Yet what came back was far greater: kindness, generosity, sincere smiles, and heartfelt thank yous.

It was humbling. Here was someone who had a little, yet was still willing to share what he had. It reminded me that generosity and kindness isn’t measured by how much we give, but by the willingness and the intention to give even when it costs us something.

Sometimes, the people who have the least are the ones who teach us the most about compassion. And in that brief exchange, Tatay gave us more than we could ever shared with him— a quiet reminder that humanity, at its core, is deeply kind. Thank you po, Tay!🥹
